Program Overview & Goals
The Community Connections Program offers home-stay based practical training opportunities in the U.S. for entrepreneurs, local government officials, legal professionals, non-governmental organization leaders and other professionals from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Local community host organizations arrange internships for participants based on interests and experience.
The goals of the program are to
- provide participants with professional training and exposure to day-to-day functioning of a free market system;
- encourage public-private partnerships in Europe/Eurasia by including private sector and government participants on U.S. visits;
- create links between U.S. and Europe/Eurasia regions and communities
History
Since 2006 through USAID Community Connections program 179 professionals from Kyrgyzstan have participated in this program.Depending on program themes professionals from Kyrgyzstan had chances to visit different organizations and institutions in the United States.The participants from 18 groups represent the following fields: (1) Non-governmental organizations; (2) Religious education; (3) Small business; (4) Education; (5) Medicine; (6) Local government; and (7) Energy system.Upon return from the three-week program, CC/KG alumni conduct different alumni activities in their communities including workshops, round tables, seminars, and conferences.Moreover, the CC/KG alumni established an alumni association that serves for networking of the alumni and assisting to implement alumni projects in the regions.
